All you need to know

The margin of defeat – across party lines – was provided by House members running in swing districts, who overwhelmingly voted against the package. Members of the House who are not running for re-election supported the bill in sweeping numbers.

Make of it what you will.

  1. Actual text message early this afternoon:
Okay, so they didn’t shoot it down because it is the wrong thing to do. They shot it down because they want votes and voters don’t want this. I guess it’s a start.
And, yes, we text with complete words and punctuation. Doesn’t everyone?

  2. There’s a better bill that could be written, so if they’re willing to go in there and write it, more power to them.
If they really voted it down because of Pelosi’s speech, they should be ashamed of themselves.
And finally, sometimes elected officials have to be smarter than their constituents. I don’t want to hear any of this cockamamie ‘I need to get re-elected’ bullshit from either side. Sometimes you do what’s *right* and if you get voted out, well, so be it. You should never be so attached to office that you can’t stand to be voted out of that office for doing the right thing.
