A coworker of mine is into brewing beers. I was talking to him about how I couldn’t find any _REAL_ root beer receipies, just “Sugar, Water, Syrup” type receipeies.
Well, he had a spare tap on his Kegerator and took it upon himself to put something non-alcoholic on it for people who come over and don’t drink.
He found a number of receipies that called for Sasafras Root, which if you google it, you’ll note has been determined a carcenegenic substance, or rather, the safrol oil contained there-in has.
He found some Sasafras Root Bark that has had the safrol oil removed and has made a batch of _REAL_ Root Beer. I’ve had one bottle. It’s a little earthy, slightly astringent, but otherwise _VERY_ tasty. I want more. 🙂
