Election Day again

First of all, I wish to reiterate that I stand by every single word of this post.

I was absolutely right then, and I’m absolutely right now. There is no daylight left between MAGA and the GOP. The Republican Party stands for one thing and one thing alone: the unlimited sovereignty of Donald Jehosephat Trump, and all his pomps, and all his works, and all his empty promises. The Republican Party, as a staff, as a record label and as a motherfuckin crew, has nothing left to offer America but bigotry, pedophilia and feudalism. No one with a brain, a conscience or the least belief in the God of the Bible should ever vote for any candidate for office with (R) next to their name, for any reason, at any level, ever again.

The only way this country is ever going to be saved is if being publicly identified as a Republican is the equivalent, twenty years ago, of being publicly indentified as a child molester. Because that’s pretty clearly not an obstacle for them these days, or for the one-third of the voting age population that continues to support them despite reason, logic and results.

What it’s going to take is something like what’s happening for the wrong reasons in Israel: the two major coalitions need 61 votes to form a government, they’re tied at 51 each, and there are 18 votes lying out there with the Arab parties – but for whatever reasons (and they are not good ones), it is anathema to partner with them even though doing so would lock up control of the government. That is how it has to be in this country. The MAGAts need to be locked out of power, out of polite society, for the rest of our lives and beyond, and people need to accept that it is better to lose with honor and preserve democracy than to reach for the bag of racism again because winning is more important. That is the cardinal sin of the GOP since 1968: the notion that they can rub elbows with the worst in America and it’s all right if it helps them win. It is the Bush Ethos writ large. It is Kevin Philips, Lee Atwater and Karl Rove distilled to their final form.

If you are not okay with (waves arms at everything), you can never again vote for a Republican. No more excuses. No more understanding, no more “come let us reason together,” it’s time to shut it down, lock it away and melt the key to slag. Starting Tuesday.
